About Us: Providing the South Island Family Support
Over 4 Decades of Family Support in Sooke
For more than four decades, Sooke Family Resource Society (SFRS) has been a trusted source of South Island family support, helping individuals of all ages navigate challenges, build resilience, and feel connected within their community. What began as a small circle of parents seeking guidance has grown into a respected, inclusive organization dedicated to supporting the emotional, social, and practical needs of people from Port Renfrew to Greater Victoria.
Today, SFRS continues to evolve with the community — offering programs that meet families where they are and creating pathways toward a healthier, more supported future.
From a Kitchen Table to a Community Pillar of South Island Family Support
SFRS began humbly in 1984, when a group of young mothers gathered around a kitchen table to share parenting challenges, swap advice, and support one another. Realizing a broader need for accessible South Island family support, they established the Sooke Family Resource Society to help families in the region find connection, guidance, and resources close to home.
Over the years, that simple act of gathering transformed into a community-centred organization offering a wide range of child, youth, and family services. As the community grew, so did we. SFRS expanded its programs, strengthened partnerships, and developed supports for individuals at every stage of life — from prenatal families to seniors seeking connection.
Today, SFRS is known not only for our longevity, but for the genuine care we bring to every interaction. Our history is woven into the fabric of the community, and we remain committed to offering quality services that help people feel grounded, supported, and understood.
The Values That Shape Us
Our work is guided by a set of core values that shape every program, interaction, and decision we make. These values reflect who we are as an organization — and who we strive to be for the community we serve.
Respect & Inclusion
We treat everyone with fairness, equality, and dignity, recognizing the diversity that strengthens our community. Every individual’s story, background, and identity is honored within our spaces.
Honesty & Integrity
We behave ethically, legally, and safely in all that we do. Trust is the foundation of meaningful support, and we work hard to earn and maintain it.
Compassion & Care
We nurture an environment that is open, welcoming, and caring. Whether someone comes to us in a moment of crisis or simply seeking guidance, we meet them with empathy and understanding.
Innovation & Adaptability
The needs of families and individuals change over time, and so do we. Through creativity, strategic planning, and collaboration, we continue to evolve and develop programs that reflect the realities of our community.
Collaboration & Community Partnership
We believe that effective change happens when we work together. SFRS collaborates with local organizations, community groups, and partners to strengthen the network of South Island family support and ensure help is accessible to everyone who needs it.
Accountability & Action
We are committed to making a real difference. Our team is action-oriented, responsible, and focused on delivering services that create meaningful impact.

Our Commitment to Individual & Family Support in Sooke
At its heart, Sooke Family Resource Society is a community partner

We're place where individuals and families can turn for guidance, connection, and hope. We recognize that life’s challenges don’t come with a roadmap, and no one should have to navigate them alone. That’s why our programs are designed to meet people where they are, offering support that is compassionate, practical, and tailored to each person’s needs.
From counselling and parenting resources to early years support, disability services, community thrift programs, and more, we aim to provide tools that help people feel confident and supported in their daily lives. When someone reaches out to SFRS, we walk alongside them, offering steady guidance and empowering them to take their next steps forward.
Our commitment to South Island family support has remained unwavering since 1984 — and as our community continues to grow and change, so will we. Each year, more individuals and families reach out looking for connection, guidance, and a safe place to land, and we are honoured to be part of their journey. With the help of our dedicated team, our volunteers, and the incredible community partners who stand beside us, we are able to adapt our programs, expand our services, and respond to new needs as they arise.
Whether someone is taking their first step toward seeking support or returning to us during a challenging moment in life, we are here to walk alongside them with compassion and respect. Together, we are building a stronger, more connected community — one where every person feels seen, supported, and empowered to move forward with confidence.
